Before to use MIDI it is preferable disable appletalk and system extensions that make use of the modem or printer port.
At moment D-SoundPRO is not very compatible with the Apple Virtual Memory. Turn it off from the Memory control panel.
For MIDI communications, please disable also RAM Doubler, if present. D-SoundPRO's preferred size is 4000 K, but 2500 K are enough if you are not loading long stereo files. In this case D-SoundPRO runs also on Mac with 4 MBytes of RAM memory.
Using OMS (2.3.2 or better is recommended) or FreeMidi (1.34 or better is mandatory) D-SoundPRO permits to receive/transmit MIDI sample packets from/to most samplers using most MIDI interfaces, also with multiple out/in routings.
In all cases avoid midi thru or midi feedbacks around your network.
Before to transmit/receive sounds from/to your synth/sampler, check:
- the memory protection must be Off
- the midi exclusive message I/O must be On
- the Midi channel and device ID matching
- your Midi or SCSI cable
- The Sampler SCSI ID should be set on IDs not equal to 0 or 7, which are used by the Mac if it has only one SCSI bus. Generally you must also restart your sampler after you have changed its SCSI ID.
Using OMS or FreeMidi, remind to select your sampler by popup menus near OMS In/Out (Midi Tx and Rx dialogs)

*** FreeMidi ***
D-SoundPRO is compatible with FreeMidi 1.34 or better, using its OMS emulator. Please write to me if you are successfully/unsuccessfully using a MOTU Interfaces. I'm contacting MOTU for technical documents and software Libraries for next direct support in D-SoundPRO.
*** About Roland SCSI ***
The SCSI dump to/from Roland samplers requires a bidirectional MIDI connections.
If you are using a S-760, the last version of the OS is required (the current is the 2.24). You find it at Roland Web site.
I know that the SCSI dump works only with S-760 and DJ70 MkII.
If you are going to send a sample to replace an existing one, it is better first to delete manually the one to replace, then to send the new one.
*** About SCSI I/O for E-MU, Kurzweil, SMDI samplers***
I found the protocols are not identical, also if all they call it SMDI. I tested E-MU, Kurzweil and Yamaha (all using also stereo files) , but not what should be the original SMDI. PLEASE, LET ME KNOW ABOUT PEAVEY!
*** About YAMAHA A3000 SMDI SCSI dump ***
Use SMDI option, but you must first:
- go to DISK/DISK/SelfID page and set the A3000 ID to a free scsi ID number not equal to 7 nor 0.
- reboot the A3000
- go to UTILITY/MIDI/Bulk page and set the memory Protect to OFF
Using the first release of the A3000 OS, the SMDI seems to be not very fast, but it works fine for both mono and stereo sounds. Unfortunally the A3000 doesn't answer with SMDI reject error messages when its memory is full (or perhaps I missed something). Take care to avoid this, it freezes the SCSI bus.
